8/26/99 - The day that changed my life

Nine years ago this morning God gave me the most precious gift in the world, Noah Kalen.  The child who has endured a series of nick names that started with "lumpy" and "the boy" even before he was born. The latest is "Noey", which considering that he is nine, I am lucky that he is speaking to me.

He is my cautious, do it right one.  The one that we encouraged to jump on the couch and tempted to walk with chocolate chips.  He now shocks me with stories of playing chicken in the swimming pool with his baseball buddies, climbing trees, riding bikes and just being a boy. I am amazed at how he has grown.  He still stands back to assess situations but more and more he is allowing others to see the humorous, fun loving side.

The boy lights up when he gives something from his heart whether it is his offering money to orphans for VBS or the clay flower he made and left with an i heart u note on my dresser. He loves to cuddle up and watch TV or read a book. He went through a stage where he would not let me kiss him but he would graciously allow me kiss him the head.  The stage is long past but now it is special to kiss his head and ruffle his hair (when he has some).

I can not wait to see what is around the bend.  Noah grows in leaps.  He draws in close before he leaps away onto the next thing of life, making sure it is ok before he takes another big leap into the world.  I love the boy he has become, so capable yet still wanting to hang on to childhood.  He is right in the middle exactly where he should be and his dad and I could not be more proud.
